"Where you now stand is a result of thoughts and feelings that you have offered before, but where you are going is a result of your perspective of where you now stand."

Why I’ve come to welcome resistance and triggers.

I was speaking to someone recently who lately has been feeling aligned and in the flow. She felt so connected and oozing with love and gratitude, you can literally feel the energy coming out of her.

Now on the day I saw her, she was in a different state. Her words to me were something like, “I’ve been doing so good and thought I had this, and now I’m feeling like I’m taking a step back”. As I listened to her talk and hearing how bad she felt for being triggered, I couldn’t help but feel and clearly see that the resistance and frustration that she was feeling was a major step forward in her growth and transformation.

The thing about personal growth is that it’s a never-ending process. There is always a new level to reach and another layer of fears and resistance that you need to face to help you move to new heights. As humans we are always growing and I feel that the level of growth is infinite. This is why I always say to enjoy the journey and process, and stop looking to reach a certain ‘destination’ in order to be happy, because truly the ‘destination’ doesn’t exist. There is always new heights and level to reach and as long as you’re growing and expanding, then you’ll continue to be in the flow and feel fulfilled.

The sad thing I see though is, because we’ve been taught that feeling negative emotions is wrong, we end up pushing them down, ignoring them or throwing a bunch of affirmations on them. Or we beat ourselves up for feeling negative in the first place. Yes affirmations and shifting your thinking works, however, for healing and a breakthrough to occur, you must look at what your fears, resistance and triggers are trying to tell you. You must honour your emotions and allow yourself tofeel them.

There is always so much more to uncover and so when triggers and resistance comes, it’s a beautiful opportunity to see what else needs to be healed in order to move up. It can be stuff that you thought you’ve already healed and released, however you can always go deeper. Sometimes it can get ugly and scary, as things will show up for you to deal with as you go through a healing and growth process. Things that you wish you could just ignore and not deal with.

The more you know that this is all a part of the healing and growth process and lean into it and uncover the lessons that are being taught to you, the better you’re able to reach greater heights.

When I think about it on a global scale, I honestly believe this is what the past few months with the events of the US elections are teaching us. It’s showing us people, conditions and issues that’s been outside our awareness, but has been brought to the surface so we can take action and heal. The anger you may be feeling is not a bad thing because it’s showing you what’s important to you. Issues that matter to you that you feel called to help and take action to improve. Being angry and upset at injustice is not a bad thing as long as you don’t stay and live in the anger and move your way up into a better feeling. You must feel the emotions and then see how you can take action to make right or better that which is triggering you.

Action can be as little as showing those that are being targeted or oppressed more love, compassion and support. It can be partaking in a peaceful movement or march to show your stance and support. Or it can be looking to see how someone else that has a different opinion came to his or her conclusion and try to understand where he or she is coming from. It doesn’t matter the size of action, as long as you take it. This is the key to move forward and using your resistance and triggers to have the breakthrough you want.
