"Where you now stand is a result of thoughts and feelings that you have offered before, but where you are going is a result of your perspective of where you now stand."

Do you have the courage to ask for what you want?

Isn’t it funny how when we were kids, we were never afraid to ask for what we want? I see this clearly with my 3 year old. Whenever he wants something; he does not hesitate to ask. When he doesn’t get the response he likes, he thinks adding please will yield an automatic yes!

As I observe him and compare him (and other kids) to many adults, and myself it seems like we operate from opposite sides. Even when asked for what we want we often reply with “Doesn’t matter. Whatever you like.” When did we forgo our needs?

I know how important it is for us to clearly ask for what we want. This can be of others or to ask it out to the Universe. But many times, we keep our requests small, or it is backed by a lack of confidence or unworthiness. Something that took me by surprise was the notion of commanding the Universe/God with my requests. This was something that was not congruent with the teachings I was raised with. I could never command. But something that I slowly starting to allow myself to feel is that the Universe wants to bring me my wants and needs. I need to clearly articulate and not be afraid to ask for what I need and definitely not be apologetic for it. That is sending mixed messages out to the Universe and will not give me a direct response to what I want.

Asking for what we want is a great way to have our needs met. No, it’s not selfish nor narcissist. We tend to confuse this and often times play a martyr role and then wonder why we are not receiving nor experiencing that which we want. This is an area that was hard for me, and I was blind to it for a while. However, when I realized it, it gave me a great aha moment. I laugh, when I think of my husband’s frustrations when he asks me what I would like to eat and my never ending answer would be “Doesn’t matter. Whatever you want. I’m okay with anything.” I never thought that by consistently answering that question in that fashion I am actually sending a message out to the Universe that I do not care what I get in life. I guess it became somewhat of a habit for me, one that I am trying to be more conscious of. I realize that even thought I am answering this in one area, that I am also setting the stage for other areas of my life.

We are consistently sending messages out to the Universe, and the results we have in our life is a direct result of those messages. If you want to know what the messages you’ve been sending, then all you need to do is look at the results you have in your life. Many people hate hearing this, but again the great thing about this is that because we are the ones sending the messages, we get to be the ones that send new ones out. Messages that will get us what we truly desire. And it takes simple things, like clearly stating and asking for what it is that you want and not feeling guilty about wanting it and having your needs met. Remember asking is the first step in the creation process. We can never manifest anything in our life is we don’t first make a request for it.

So the next time you have a desire in your heart. Have the courage to step up and ask. I love the passage that says; “Ask and it will be given to you.” If we kept our requests inside of us, the answer will always be no and the doors will always remain shut.
