"Where you now stand is a result of thoughts and feelings that you have offered before, but where you are going is a result of your perspective of where you now stand."

Ditch the Inner Critic!

Written by

Have you ever noticed that voice in your head that likes to criticize every action you take? That voice that we know deep down is false, however, we allow it to hold us back from living the life we crave.

This is not the intuitive voice I often write about, but rather the voice of the ego. The inner critic that seems to always know why we’re not good enough, and why we cannot live our dreams and loves to judge us.

Do you recognize that voice? Unfortunately we all do. I think everyone at some point experiences that crazy voice in their head that tries to detour us from pursuing our dreams. It could be in business, career or relationships. It’s that voice that tries to keep us stuck and prevents us from moving forward and taking action that will benefit our goals.

I’ve experienced this inner critic many times in my life. It’s the voice that came up when I decided to go back to work to support my business saying, “What would people think? This means I’m a failure! What if I get stuck in the rat race again and not have time for my dreams?” In reverse when I did leave the job initially it was the voice that said, “OMG what the heck am I going to do? I can’t survive this? It’s too risky!”

It’s not just at work or business either. It’s that voice that tells us we are failing in our relationships. We’re not good enough parents, even though we do our very best for our kids. It judges and holds us back from pursuing our dreams. It’s that nagging voice inside our head that gives us every reason in the world why something will not work.

So how do we quiet and shut down that voice? Well, first we should remember who we truly are and the power that we have. By choosing to stay connected to our true source, that loving light that is the source of our unlimited abundance and knows only good lies before us, we are able to quiet that voice. By knowing we are all powerful, extraordinary with the ability to create our life by design, we are able to shut down this voice!

Although it may be difficult at first to call this critic out for what it is, we can slowly take the steps to do so. When you think about your goal or the possibility of living your passion and that critic gives you all the reasons why it cannot happen, question the reasons. Really truly question the reasons and evaluate how true they are. You will find that the more you question them; you will see that they are simply false.

Sometimes I find when something big is about to happen, that voice gets louder, trying to keep me from my accomplishments. Remembering this helps me to turn my back on that critic and not allow it to steer me away from my goals. I also love going to a quote from Wayne Dyer, which I believe is from ACIM that says, “You can either be a Host to God, or a Hostage to your ego!” I then make the decision to not invest in the illusion of that critical voice of the ego, but rather strengthen my relationship with my intuitive guidance. I choose to take my power back and ditch the inner critic!

So, have you come across this inner critic before? What ways were you able to quiet it down or shut it up? Come share your comments below.
